Where to Stay in Cozumel
If this is your first time on the island, you might be wondering where the best place to stay is—San Miguel, the eastern side of the island, or the west.
While San Miguel is Cozumel’s vibrant hub, brimming with local shops and authentic eateries, I believe the true allure of the island is best experienced outside the city. For a prime location that combines proximity to San Miguel with access to the island’s top restaurants and beach clubs, the west side of Cozumel is your best bet. This side is more built up and also offers protection from Quintana Roo’s more recent sargassum issues.
Specifically, I always stay at The Westin Cozumel or Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa which both offer luxurious stays close to the action, while still providing a serene retreat. Both properties are ideally situated for exploring and having a rental car ensures you can easily discover the island’s secluded beaches and natural beauty.
By staying outside San Miguel, you’ll enjoy the perfect balance of convenience and tranquility, fully immersing yourself in Cozumel’s island charm.
The Best Luxury Hotels in Cozumel
Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, an IHG Hotel

Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, an IHG Hotel, is more than just a place to stay—it’s the luxury experience of Cozumel that also embodies the island’s charm and natural beauty. Tucked away on the tranquil western shore of the island, this resort feels like a hidden gem, yet it’s conveniently located just a short drive from San Miguel and the island’s top beach clubs.
The resort’s private beach, the largest on the island, with its powder-soft sand and crystal-clear waters, is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply soaking up the serene atmosphere. And if you’re a snorkeling enthusiast like me, you’ll be thrilled to discover that some of the island’s most vibrant coral reefs are just steps from the shore.
The rooms at the Presidente are understated, elegant and designed with a harmonious blend of modern sophistication and traditional Mexican influences with each space feeling warm and inviting. Think hand-carved wooden details, artisanal tilework, and plush furnishings that are as comfortable as they are stylish.
Many rooms, mine included, come with expansive terraces that frame stunning views of the turquoise sea or the lush tropical gardens, making it hard to leave and explore more of the island.
When it comes to dining, the Presidente also delivers. El Caribeno is a favorite of mine for its beachfront ambiance and locally inspired dishes, from perfectly grilled seafood to refreshing tropical cocktails.
For a touch of elegance, Alfredo di Roma offers exquisite Italian fare accompanied by a carefully curated wine list, all served in a romantic setting and El Faro is the spot for classic and contemporary cuisine. Breakfast is another highlight, with an impressive buffet featuring everything from fresh tropical fruits to traditional Mexican specialties like chilaquiles.
One of the resort’s crowning jewels is its spa, where you can indulge in treatments inspired by ancient Mayan rituals. The outdoor hydrotherapy circuit, set amidst lush greenery, is a perfect prelude to a relaxing massage or facial. And for those who prefer a more active way to unwind, the resort offers a range of activities, from paddleboarding and kayaking to a state-of-the-art fitness center.
What keeps me coming back to the Presidente InterContinental is the attention to detail and the way the staff makes you feel like family. Whether it’s the welcome drink upon arrival, the thoughtful turndown service, or the heartfelt smiles from everyone you meet, this resort has a way of making you feel at home while offering the elevated luxuries of a world-class hotel. For me, it’s the ultimate Cozumel getaway—a place where every moment feels effortlessly special.
The Westin Cozumel

The Westin Cozumel is another top luxury hotel in Cozumel that feels like a modern oasis, combining sleek design with the island’s natural charm. Perched on the peaceful northern coast, just north of San Miguel, it quickly became one of my favorite spots on the island.
The rooms, with their soft tones of white and aqua, offer floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies that frame incredible ocean views. I loved waking up to the sunrise from my balcony, coffee in hand, and ending the day with a cocktail at the Sky Lounge, watching the stars over the sea.
Dining here is a treat—Cuzamil serves fresh, creative Mexican dishes, and the rooftop bar is perfect for unwinding. The Heavenly Spa was a highlight for me; there’s nothing like a beachfront massage with the sound of the waves in the background.
Plus, the hotel’s location makes exploring easy—whether I wanted to snorkel the reefs or head into San Miguel for a night out, everything was close by.
Fiesta Americana Cozumel All Inclusive

Fiesta Americana Cozumel All Inclusive is where comfort meets fun, making it a great choice for travelers who want a hassle-free stay without compromising on quality. Set on the island’s western side, the all-inclusive resort offers easy access to Cozumel’s famed coral reefs, perfect for snorkeling and diving right off the shore.
I found the rooms to be spacious, modern, and bright, with private balconies overlooking the sea or lush gardens, creating the perfect space to relax after a day of adventure. What I loved most about staying here was the food—seven on-site restaurants ensure there’s always something new to try, from fresh ceviche at the beachfront grill to authentic Mexican dishes at the a la carte restaurant.
There’s even a coffee corner for your morning pick-me-up and late-night cravings.
With all-inclusive perks, you can spend your days lounging by the pool with a cocktail in hand or joining in on activities like kayaking and beach volleyball while also taking some time out of the resort for all the top diving in Cozumel.
Families will love the laid-back vibe and kid-friendly amenities, while couples can enjoy quiet moments at the adults-only pool or indulging in a treatment at the spa. Fiesta Americana strikes a perfect balance of fun, relaxation, and value, making it a go-to for an all-inclusive getaway in Cozumel.
Cozumel Palace-All Inclusive

Cozumel Palace-All Inclusive is another standout choice for travelers seeking a luxurious yet relaxed all-inclusive experience. Located on the island’s western coast near San Miguel, it offers stunning oceanfront views and easy access to Cozumel’s famous dive sites.
The rooms are spacious and elegant, featuring whirlpool tubs and private balconies—perfect for unwinding after a day in the sun.
Dining here is a treat, with several restaurants serving everything from traditional Mexican flavors to international cuisine, all complemented by exceptional service. I especially loved the poolside snacks and handcrafted cocktails, which added to the laid-back vibe.
The infinity pool overlooking the ocean is a highlight, as are the activities like snorkeling and paddleboarding, all included in your stay. With its combination of upscale amenities and a friendly atmosphere, Cozumel Palace offers an all-inclusive getaway that feels both indulgent and welcoming.
Iberostar Waves Cozumel – All Inclusive

Iberostar Waves Cozumel – All Inclusive is a serene retreat on Cozumel’s western coast, offering prime access to vibrant coral reefs and breathtaking sunsets. Blending well with its tropical surroundings- I love the palapa roofs which give such a tropical island touch, the resort features 154 elegant rooms and suites with private balconies overlooking the sea or lush gardens.
Service here is attentive and thoughtful, from personalized touches at the pool to concierge-arranged dives at nearby reefs. Dining is a highlight, with five restaurants offering everything from fresh seafood at the beachfront grill to gourmet Mexican cuisine. Families will appreciate the Star Camp for kids, while adults can unwind at the oceanfront spa or infinity pool.
Whether snorkeling, savoring a candlelit lobster dinner, or simply soaking in the tranquility, Iberostar Waves makes an excellent base to embrace the beauty of Cozumel.
Grand Park Royal Cozumel – All-Inclusive

Just outside San Miguel and next to the cruise terminal, you’ll find the Grand Park Royal Cozumel – All Inclusive, a resort that offers convenience with a tropical escape. This expansive property offers direct beach access, lush gardens, and breathtaking views of the Caribbean. The resort’s signature towers provide spacious rooms and suites, many with private balconies where you can watch cruise ships glide by or marvel at Cozumel’s legendary sunsets.
While the design is good enough, what sets Grand Park Royal apart is its variety and dining. Four pools—including an infinity pool overlooking the ocean—offer plenty of space to unwind, while daily activities like yoga, aqua aerobics, and snorkeling keep things lively.
For dining, you’re spoiled for choice with four restaurants ranging from authentic Mexican dishes to elegant Italian cuisine, plus poolside snack bars for casual bites. The lobby bar quickly became my favorite spot for an evening cocktail, with its chic atmosphere and live music.
For relaxation, the spa offers indulgent treatments inspired by the island’s natural elements, while families will appreciate the kids’ club and entertainment options. With its ideal location just a short drive from San Miguel, the Grand Park Royal makes exploring Cozumel easy, but with so much to do on-site, you may find it hard to leave.
Hotel B Unique

Hotel B Unique is Cozumel’s best boutique escape, perfect for those seeking something more intimate than a large resort. Perched on the northern coast, it combines sleek, modern design with stunning ocean views from its infinity pool and floor-to-ceiling windows in the rooms.
The vibe is effortlessly chic yet relaxed, with personalized service that makes you feel right at home. I loved their fresh ceviche and the food at Xulha in general, and sunset cocktails at the rooftop bar, as well as daily activities like yoga and paddleboarding, added a restorative touch.
If you’re after a stylish, authentic Cozumel stay, this is the spot.
