The Best Time to Visit Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
In a nutshell, the best time to visit Cabo San Lucas Mexico depends on what you’re looking for—whether it’s ideal beach weather, fewer crowds, or the best deals on luxury resorts.
December to April is the peak season, drawing visitors with warm winter temperatures and incredible whale-watching opportunities. Meanwhile, the low season from June to September offers budget-friendly rates but comes with higher humidity and a chance of summer storms. For those seeking a balance, the shoulder seasons in late spring and early fall provide a mix of pleasant weather, manageable crowds, and great travel deals.
High Season in Cabo San Lucas
December through April marks Cabo’s high season, making it a popular escape for many North American travelers looking to swap cold temperatures for sun-drenched beaches. The weather is at its most pleasant, with daytime highs around 75 to 80°F (24 to 27°C) and little to no rainfall.
This is also prime whale-watching season, as thousands of gray and humpback whales migrate through the waters of the Baja Peninsula. While the atmosphere is lively and the resorts are at their best, expect higher prices and bigger crowds, especially around Christmas, New Year’s, and spring break in March and April. If you’re planning to visit during this time, booking accommodations well in advance is essential.
Low Season in Cabo San Lucas
The summer months bring Cabo’s low season, and with it, the cheapest time to visit Cabo. However, this is also the hottest and most humid time of year, with average temperatures soaring past 90°F (32°C) and occasional summer storms, particularly in August and September, which mark the peak of hurricane season.
While the heat can be intense, it’s still a great time for diving, snorkeling, and fishing, as the waters are warm and marine life is abundant. If you don’t mind the heat and are looking for a quieter, more affordable Cabo experience, the summer months can be a good option.
Shoulder Season in Cabo San Lucas
The shoulder seasons—late spring and early fall—offer a perfect blend of great weather, fewer crowds, and reasonable prices. May is particularly nice, with warm but not overwhelming temperatures and calm waters for snorkeling and paddleboarding.
October and November mark the transition from the rainy season to the dry season, with warm days and cooler evenings, making them ideal months for outdoor activities. This is also when sportfishing is at its peak, as Cabo hosts major tournaments like the Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament.
If you want to enjoy Cabo’s best experiences without the high-season price tags, this is an excellent time to visit and my personal recommended month to visit Can San Lucas, Mexico.

Best Time to Go to Cabo Mexico to Avoid the Crowds
For a quieter and more relaxed experience, the best time to visit Cabo San Lucas Mexico is during the shoulder seasons in May, June, September, and October. These months fall between the high and low seasons, offering fewer tourists, better hotel deals, and a more peaceful atmosphere at popular beaches and attractions.
May and early June (better as the Art Walk in San Jose del Cabo is still on) bring warm but comfortable weather before the summer heat sets in, while September and October see fewer visitors despite warm temperatures and the possibility of occasional rain.
Avoiding major holidays, spring break (March and April), and the festive season in December will also help you experience Cabo without the peak-season crowds.
When to Avoid Visiting Cabo San Lucas
While Cabo San Lucas is a year-round destination, there are certain times when visiting may be less ideal. August and September are the hottest and most humid months, with temperatures often exceeding 95°F (35°C) and a higher chance of tropical storms or hurricanes.
This period also marks the rainy season, bringing occasional downpours and unpredictable weather that can disrupt travel plans. Spring break in March and early April is another time to avoid if you’re looking for a quiet getaway, as Cabo fills with spring breakers, making hotels, beaches, and nightlife spots especially crowded and not in the best way.
Christmas and New Year’s are among the busiest (and most expensive) weeks of the year, with limited availability and inflated prices at luxury resorts.
Travel insurance is always a good idea, but it’s wise not to leave without it when traveling during the rainy seasons or the more hurricane-prone months.
