There are few places in the world where you can tee off with breathtaking views of the Sea of Cortez, surrounded by rugged desert landscapes and untouched islands. Loreto, Mexico, is one of them. This hidden gem on the Baja California Peninsula is emerging as an elite golf destination, with world-class courses, luxury resorts, and an intimate, unspoiled atmosphere that sets it apart from Mexico’s more crowded golf hubs like Los Cabos or the Riviera Nayarit.
I recently returned from a Loreto Mexico golf getaway, and let me tell you—this is the kind of place that lingers in your memory long after you’ve played your final hole. For the avid golfer seeking the ultimate challenge or even a casual player looking for a scenic round in paradise, Loreto delivers.
Here’s everything you need to know about golf in Loreto, Mexico’s next big golf destination.

Why Loreto Should Be on Every Golfer’s Bucket List
Loreto isn’t just about the golf—it’s about the experience. This charming colonial town, set against the stunning backdrop of the Sierra de la Giganta mountains, has remained blissfully under the radar compared to other Baja hotspots. The weather is near-perfect year-round, with mild winters and warm, dry summers, making it an ideal golf escape whenever the mood strikes.
What truly makes Loreto special, though, is its sheer natural beauty. The moment you step onto the fairway, you’re met with a panoramic view of turquoise waters, rocky cliffs, and dramatic desert terrain. It’s a stark contrast to the more manicured, resort-heavy golf courses elsewhere in Mexico. Here, nature is part of the game.
The Best Golf Courses in Loreto, Mexico
TPC Danzante Bay: The Crown Jewel of Baja Golf
If you play only one Loreto golf course, make it TPC Danzante Bay. Located within the Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa, this Rees Jones-designed masterpiece is easily one of the most visually stunning courses I’ve ever played.
Each hole is meticulously carved into the rugged Baja landscape, offering a thrilling mix of elevated tee boxes, rolling fairways, and coastal cliffside greens. The signature 17th hole, perched high above the Sea of Cortez, is nothing short of breathtaking. I stood there for a good five minutes before even pulling out a club, just soaking in the view of Danzante Island rising from the azure waters below.
Beyond the scenery, TPC Danzante Bay delivers a world-class golfing experience. The course is impeccably maintained, the greens roll fast and true, and the level of service—from club attendants to the on-course amenities—is five-star. There’s even a luxurious clubhouse where you can unwind post-round with a cocktail and a view of the final hole.
If you’re after a VIP golf experience, the resort offers personalized golf clinics, private caddy service, and even a stay-and-play package that includes unlimited golf, spa treatments, and fine dining at their oceanfront restaurant.

Loreto Bay Golf Course: A Scenic & Playable Alternative
For a more relaxed round, I also played at Loreto Bay Golf Course, a shorter but fun, walkable course that offers a great mix of coastal holes and lush fairways. Designed to be playable for all skill levels, it’s a fantastic option for a casual afternoon round or a warm-up before tackling TPC Danzante Bay.
What stood out most here was the laid-back Baja atmosphere—it’s the kind of place where you can play barefoot if you want to, with the sound of the waves as your only distraction.
While not as dramatic as TPC Danzante Bay, Loreto Bay still delivers a beautiful golfing experience with coastal breezes and palm-lined fairways that remind you you’re playing in paradise – it’s also much closer to Loreto town- ideal for those after a simple afternoon of golf.
Where to Stay: Luxury Golf Resorts in Loreto
For a high-end Loreto golf retreat, there’s no better place to stay than Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto. This secluded five-star resort sits right on the coastline and is home to TPC Danzante Bay, making it the ultimate choice for golfers.
Beyond the course, the resort offers luxurious ocean-view suites, infinity pools, a holistic spa, and gourmet dining—perfect for unwinding after a day on the links. I stayed in a spacious one-bedroom suite with a private terrace overlooking the bay and even woke up to the sight of dolphins swimming past my balcony one morning.
For a more boutique-style stay, Loreto also has several charming beachfront resorts and upscale vacation rentals that cater to golfers looking for a more intimate escape.
Loreto Bay Golf Resort & Spa is also a good option for a Loreto golf getaway and in Loreto town, La Mision Loreto is where to stay or the boutique hotel Posada de las Flores.

Golf Packages & VIP Experiences in Loreto
One of the best ways to experience golf in Loreto is by booking a luxury golf package. Resorts like Villa del Palmar offer curated stay-and-play deals, which often include:
- Unlimited rounds at TPC Danzante Bay
- Luxury accommodations with ocean views
- Private golf lessons with PGA pros
- All-inclusive dining and spa treatments
- Private yacht excursions or fishing trips
For those who want an ultra-exclusive golf experience, you can even charter a private jet to Loreto, with door-to-fairway service.
The Best Time to Golf in Loreto
Loreto enjoys sunny skies nearly year-round, but the best months for golf are November through April, when temperatures hover between 65°F and 85°F—perfect for long days on the course. Summer months (June to September) can be hot, but morning tee times still allow for a comfortable round.
I played in late February, and the weather was ideal—warm but breezy, with clear blue skies and low humidity. If you want to avoid crowds, midweek tee times in the shoulder seasons (May or October) offer a peaceful, private feel.

Even if you’re here for the golf, Loreto offers plenty of ways to indulge off the course. Some of my favorites included:

- Deep-sea fishing for dorado and marlin
- Relaxing on the beach or at a beachfront spa with a private massage cabana
- Dining on fresh seafood and Baja wines at oceanfront restaurants

Getting to Loreto
Loreto is easily accessible via Loreto International Airport (LTO), with direct flights from Los Angeles, Dallas, Phoenix, and Calgary. Many private jet services also operate routes to Loreto, making it an effortless escape for luxury travelers.
Once you arrive, rental cars and private transfers are available to take you directly to your resort or Loreto golf course.
It’s also possible to fly into La Paz but prepare for the 5-hour drive from La Paz to Loreto.
After spending time here, I can confidently say that Loreto is one of Mexico’s most underrated golf destinations. With its world-class courses, spectacular scenery, and exclusive luxury resorts, it offers a more private, unspoiled golf experience than Mexico’s more mainstream golf hubs.
If you’re looking for a high-end golf escape that combines incredible courses with the tranquility of Baja’s untouched coastline, Loreto should be at the top of your list. I know I’ll be back for another round soon.
