My Picks for the Top Loreto, Mexico Beaches
1. La Negrita Beach
Too often, those seeking out beaches in Loreto will beeline straight for those outside town, but the little town itself has a few gems that won’t require you to pack up the car.
Just north of Loreto center lies the striking La Negrita Beach, a beach known for its unique dark sand and pebbles and picturesque views of the town and its lighthouse.

The beach’s dark sands, a result of volcanic activity, contrast beautifully with the vivid blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. We recommend taking a stroll along the shore at sunrise to fully appreciate the mesmerizing interplay of colors and the panoramic views of faraway Isla Carmen.
During the day, especially at weekends, the beach comes alive with locals and their families playing in the cool and shallow waters. There isn’t much here in terms of infrastructure so it’s a good idea to bring a towel and supplies, but know this is more of a towel-on-the-sand kinda place.
2. Playa La Darsena
Another option if you’re looking for a spot for a quick dip without leaving town, Playa Darsensa is a mostly pebble beach close to the marina. The pebble beach stretches invitingly along the gentle curve of the bay, while the calm, clear waters are perfect for a refreshing swim or a leisurely kayak.

The main Loreto beach is flanked by a picturesque Loreto malecon, where you can enjoy a leisurely walk and take in the stunning views of the distant islands and the rugged Sierra de la Giganta mountains.
For the best experience, arrive early to witness the sunrise casting its golden hues over the serene waters. Playa La Darsena is the perfect spot for a quick dip and a brief beach chill.
3. Playa Isla Coronado
There’s little surprise that the best Loreto Mexico beaches are the ones that aren’t the easiest to get to. Located just a short boat ride from Loreto, Isla Coronado offers some of the region’s most pristine and enchanting beaches on one of the islands of Loreto.
This idyllic island, part of the Loreto Bay National Marine Park, is renowned for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The beaches here are framed by dramatic volcanic rock formations and lush greenery, creating a stunning contrast against the vivid sea.
