The Best Hotels in Guadalajara
Guadalajara has one of Mexico’s strongest urban hotel scenes, with everything from characterful boutique stays and beautifully restored historic properties to sleek luxury hotels and excellent value design hotels.
If the hotel is your priority, these are the best hotels in Guadalajara that I’d recommend, whether you’re looking for a central base, a stylish city break, or a more luxurious stay.

Casa Habita – One of Guadalajara’s most iconic boutique hotels, Casa Habita blends mid-century design with contemporary Mexican style in the heart of Colonia Americana. Rooms are sleek and understated, while the rooftop pool, spa, and excellent restaurant make it just as tempting to stay in as it is to explore the surrounding neighborhood.
Hotel Demetria – A longtime favorite in Colonia Americana, Hotel Demetria pairs striking contemporary architecture with spacious, design-led rooms. Its rooftop pool, excellent restaurant, and walkable location near some of Guadalajara’s best cafés and restaurants make it a great choice for a stylish city stay.
Bellwort Hotel – Bellwort is a smart boutique hotel with a more intimate feel, offering stylish rooms, warm service, and one of the city’s best-value luxury stays. Set in the heart of Colonia Americana, you’re within easy walking distance of Guadalajara’s best coffee shops, cocktail bars, galleries, and restaurants.
Villa Ganz – Set inside a beautifully restored 1930s mansion in Colonia Americana, Villa Ganz is one of Guadalajara’s classic boutique hotels. With just a handful of individually designed rooms, elegant common spaces, and attentive service, it offers a quieter, more intimate stay while still being within walking distance of many of the city’s best restaurants and cafés.

Quinta Real Guadalajara – Set inside a former colonial-style estate in the leafy neighborhood of Providencia, Quinta Real is one of Guadalajara’s most elegant luxury hotels. Expect spacious suites, lush gardens, a beautiful outdoor pool, and a quieter setting that still puts the city’s best restaurants and shopping within easy reach.
JW Marriott Hotel Guadalajara – One of the city’s newest luxury hotels, the JW Marriott offers sleek contemporary rooms, excellent dining, a rooftop pool, and impeccable service. Located in Guadalajara’s financial district, it’s an ideal choice if you prefer modern luxury with easy access to Providencia.
Hilton Guadalajara Midtown – Connected to the Midtown Jalisco shopping and dining complex, this is one of the city’s best all-round upscale hotels. Rooms are modern and spacious, there’s a rooftop pool with city views, and the location is perfect if you want easy access to Providencia, Andares, and some of Guadalajara’s best restaurants and cafés.
The Best Areas to Stay in Guadalajara
Where you stay in Guadalajara has a huge impact on your trip. The city is large and traffic can be heavy, so it’s worth choosing a neighborhood that matches how you want to spend your time.
Whether you’re after cafés and nightlife, the best luxury hotels in the city, historic architecture, or a quieter residential base, each area has a distinct character.
The main areas to consider are:
- Colonia Americana – The city’s coolest neighborhood and the best all-round base for most visitors, packed with cafés, restaurants, bars, galleries, and boutique hotels.
- Providencia (Financial District) – An affluent, leafy neighborhood with the city’s top luxury hotels, excellent restaurants, shopping, and easy access to the city’s business district.
- Centro Histórico – Best for colonial architecture, museums, plazas, and Guadalajara’s major cultural attractions, with a mix of good-enough historic and budget-friendly hotels.
- Chapalita – A relaxed residential neighborhood known for its cafés, tree-lined streets, local restaurants, and slower pace, ideal if you’ve visited Guadalajara before.
- Tlaquepaque – A charming historic district just outside the city center, famous for its artisan workshops, galleries, traditional architecture, and lively atmosphere.
- Zapopan – A large western district home to luxury shopping, modern restaurants, upscale hotels, and attractions such as the Basilica of Zapopan and Andares.
Where to Stay in Guadalajara, Mexico
Colonia Americana

If you’re wondering where to stay in Guadalajara for a first visit, Colonia Americana is the answer. Frequently ranked among the world’s coolest neighborhoods, it’s the creative heart of the city, where leafy streets are lined with beautiful early 20th-century mansions (a little like Condesa in Mexico City), independent coffee shops, galleries, cocktail bars, and some of Guadalajara’s best restaurants.
This is the neighborhood where you’ll likely spend most of your time anyway. Days begin with specialty coffee and brunch, afternoons are for browsing boutiques and art spaces, and evenings naturally roll into mezcal bars, wine bars, and outstanding restaurants, all within walking distance. It’s one of the few parts of Guadalajara where you can comfortably explore on foot.
Colonia Americana also sits in a great central position, making it easy to reach the Centro Histórico, Chapultepec Avenue, and even Providencia or Zapopan by a short Uber ride.
Accommodation here leans towards stylish boutique hotels rather than large international chains, making it the perfect choice if you’re looking for somewhere with personality. These hotels are all excellent options, placing you right in the middle of Guadalajara’s best dining, nightlife, and cultural scene.
Best Hotels in Colonia Americana: Casa Habita, Bellwort Hotel, Hotel Demetria, Villa Ganz
Providencia
If you prefer larger luxury hotels and familiar international brands, Providencia is one of the best areas to stay in Guadalajara. The city’s financial district it’s home to many of the top hotel chains, along with polished restaurants, rooftop bars, and some of the city’s smartest addresses.
Shopping is a big part of life here, with upscale malls such as Midtown Jalisco and Andares nearby, packed with designer stores, cafés, and restaurants. It’s generally not as walkable as Colonia Americana, with wider roads and attractions spread further apart, so you’ll likely rely on Uber to get around.
Thankfully, rides are inexpensive, making it easy to reach the city’s best neighborhoods in 10 to 20 minutes while enjoying a more polished, modern base.
Best Hotels in Providencia: JW Marriott Hotel Guadalajara, Hilton Guadalajara Midtown, Grand Fiesta Americana Guadalajara, Nido x Nomad Pablo Neruda
Centro Historico

If your priority is sightseeing and you don’t have too much time in the city, Centro Histórico is one of the most convenient places to stay in Guadalajara. It’s home to the city’s major landmarks, including the cathedral, plazas, museums, and historic buildings, making it easy to explore Guadalajara’s colonial heart on foot.
The trade-off is that accommodation here isn’t as strong as elsewhere in the city. While there are a handful of good hotels, you’ll find far fewer stylish boutique and luxury options than in Colonia Americana or Providencia.
The area is also much busier, with constant traffic, street vendors, and noise throughout the day. After dark, parts of the historic center can feel quiet and less comfortable to walk around, so it’s generally better to use Uber if you’re heading out in the evening.
I’d say that Centro Histórico is best explored during the day rather than used as a base for your entire stay, and given the proximity of nearby Colonia Americana, I’d recommend staying there over the downtown area.
Best Hotels in Downtown Guadalajara/Centro Histórico: Hilton DoubleTree Guadalajara, Casa Pedro Loza, Hotel Aló Degollado
Chapalita
If you’ve already visited Guadalajara or simply prefer a quieter, more residential atmosphere, Chapalita is a great alternative. This leafy neighborhood is known for its relaxed cafés, excellent local restaurants, and attractive tree-lined streets, giving you a more authentic glimpse of everyday life in the city.
There are fewer hotels here, but you’ll find some excellent apartment rentals. While you’ll need to rely on Uber to reach most of Guadalajara’s main attractions, it’s a peaceful base with a strong local food scene and easy access to both Colonia Americana and Providencia.
Best Places to Stay in Chapalita: Riu Plaza Guadalajara, Casa Ixaya
Tlaquepaque Centro

Although it looks like a suburb of Guadalajara on the map, Tlaquepaque is actually its own municipality with a distinct identity and atmosphere. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the region, known for its colourful colonial streets, artisan workshops, galleries, traditional cantinas, and lively plazas filled with mariachi music and local life.
As a base for exploring Guadalajara itself, though, it isn’t the most practical choice. The distance into the city, combined with Guadalajara’s often heavy traffic, means you’ll spend more time travelling between attractions than if you stayed in Colonia Americana or Providencia.
That said, Tlaquepaque is a wonderful place to stay if you’re looking for a slower pace and a more traditional side of Jalisco. If you have the time, I’d split your trip between the two. Spend three nights in Colonia Americana to experience Guadalajara’s restaurants, cafés, and creative scene, then finish with two nights in Tlaquepaque to unwind and enjoy a completely different atmosphere. It’s one of my favourite ways to experience the city and its surroundings.
Best Hotels in Tlaquepaque: La Villa del Ensueno Boutique Hotel, Quinta Don Jose Boutique Hotel,
Zapopan
Like Tlaquepaque, Zapopan is its own municipality rather than a neighborhood of Guadalajara, although the two cities blend seamlessly together. It’s a modern, affluent area that’s home to luxury shopping, excellent restaurants, contemporary developments, and attractions such as the Basilica of Zapopan and the upscale Andares district.
Zapopan isn’t the best base if your main goal is exploring Guadalajara’s historic center or the cafés and nightlife of Colonia Americana, as traffic can quickly add time to every journey. However, if you’re visiting for shopping, business, or simply prefer newer hotels and a quieter, more residential setting, it’s an excellent choice.
Many of Guadalajara’s best luxury hotels are found here or on the border with Providencia, making Zapopan particularly appealing if you want resort-style comfort without being in the middle of the city’s busiest neighborhoods.
Best Hotels in Zapopan: Hyatt Regency Andares, Presidente InterContinental Guadalajara
